Constitutional Litigation

The Partners at the Firm have vast and unparalleled experience in representing clients in Constitutional Petitions before the High Courts and the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Some of the matters in which we have represented clients are: the levying of commercialization fees; the change of land use and illegal land acquisition, challenging the illegal arrest and detention (and subsequent trial) of public office holders.

Energy Sector

We have considerable experience in the Energy Sector, particularly in Oil and Gas. Having served on the boards of several public sector companies in this field have given Mahmood an unparalleled insight into the technical aspects of this sector. Mahmood has represented SSGC and SNGPL before the superior courts and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (OGRA).

Corporate Litigation

Advisory and Start-up Consultancies – We provide litigious and non-litigious services to our clients in the corporate sector. The Firm has represented individual and corporate clients in litigation before the superior courts of Pakistan. We have also advised companies on the requirements of converting a company from private to public, conducting an Initial Public Offering (IPO) and listing on the PSX.

White Collar Crime

The Firm has represented several individuals accused in inquiries, investigations and trials of white-collar crimes, particularly those initiated by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). We have been engaged and successfully defended clients in court proceedings and have obtained pre-arrest, post-arrest and protective bails for our Clients in NAB proceedings.

Corporate Litigation

Banking

The Firm has represented Banks, as well as corporate clients, in recovery proceedings arising out of defaulted loans under the Financial Institutions (Recovery of Finances) Ordinance, 2001. We have advised clients on structuring finance agreements and have also drafted standard agreements to be used by Banks in their lending arrangements. We have drafted and negotiated tailor-made finance agreements, and their accompanying security documents, for Banks and were involved in the financing of the Mohmand Dam and Hydro Power Project undertaken by WAPDA.

Intellectual Property

We cater to our client’s needs by applying for registration of Trademarks, Copyrights etc. and also represent clients in oppositions and objections. The Firm also advises clients on Intellectual Property transactional work including licensing agreements. We have undertaken litigation and represented our clients before various fora to protect Intellectual Property rights and to prevent unfair use or market manipulation.

Alternate Dispute Resolution

We have represented a number of private and governmental bodies in domestic and foreign arbitrations. We have brought about the settlement of some important commercial disputes for both domestic and international parties. We have also undertaken formal mediation, under the orders of the High Court, with respect to a commercial dispute between a real-estate developer and a public sector financial institution – which was resolved to the satisfaction of both parties.

Civil Litigation

We handle property-related matters including inheritance, land ownership, rental and construction disputes. We cater to and assist with all types of investments, divestitures and ongoing matters pertaining to real-estate development. We have represented, and advised, some of the largest real-estate developers in the country. Our work has included setting up of housing societies, structuring transfer procedures and framing by-laws for various clients.

The Firm handles all kinds of tax matters, including: Income Tax, Sales Tax on Goods & Services, Federal Excises and Customs. We provide tax advice to our individual and institutional clients and also represent them before tribunals and courts.

Labour and Service Matters

We have experience in dealing with Labour and Service matters. We have represented corporations and individuals in litigation arising from labour matters, and routinely advise our retainer clients on labour disputes including those related to Workers Welfare Fund, Employees Old Age Benefits, pension matters, trade unions and collective bargaining agent issues.
